850i + BMW's V10. Given the money, would you do it? I think it would be awesome.
(I'm also assuming this has been done at least once. If so, I salute whoever did it)

As long as the V12 is not considered.

Only if it has this setup on it

Used to be my dream project. Although it would have to have CSi or Alpina bumpers/skirts, be about 1.5" lower, and have 18-inch M-pars.

Nay, I think this thing is heavier than an E60, and also has more expensive and numerous electrical issues. Maybe a Z3/Z4M, with big rear tires.

The world would be much better with more of these setups.

You're definitely right about it being heavier, but I'm looking at a grand tourer project more than a track monster. The electrical gremlins would make me scared, although if I had the money for the project, I doubt I would care.

nay, I'd keep the original V12. Even if it costs half the value of the car to keep it running every year.

M3/Z3/Z4 are great grand tourers. 8 series is achingly, painfully, pornographically beautiful, but it's equally as flawed. It's those looks that rope people into projects and purchases they almost always regret. No thx.
Plus the E60 M5's big problem was that it was so heavy, which didn't work 100% with the V10's revvy low inertia character. It needs a chassis that is light enough to let it zing, while still being capable enough to deal with all that horsepower. The Z3M is pretty much perfect, with its comically large 315 rear meats, while still being more than refined enough for GT duty. IMO anyway.
